ON SATURDAY 21st March the Meander Valley Food Network launched their new book called “Local Food for Local People: A How to Guide for the Meander Valley” at the Markets held on the banks of the Meander River as part of StringFest.

The crowd heard Steve Solomon talk about how important it is for people to be able to grow their own food, rather than be reliant on the big market suppliers who are not always able to provide the healthiest produce possible.

Over 100 community members were able to take away their own copy of the book on the day.

The resource book brings together information relevant to the local climate with lots of tips and techniques. Photos in the book show locals who contributed or have been involved in activities that have been run over the last few years.

The book is a free resource for the community but donations are also very gratefully received. If you would like to see a copy, drop in to Deloraine House, 112 Emu Bay Road, Deloraine, any time between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

The MV Food Network will continue to offer further workshops and events such as: Seed Saving with Sandy Tiffin on the 18th April; Fruit tree Care also with Sandy on the 13th June; Soil Health with Steve Solomon on the 8th August; Composting; and Worm Farming with Sandy Tiffin on the 12th of September; Organic Gardening with Sandy Tiffin on the 10th October; and Combating Pests and Disease in the Vegetable Garden with David Kenyon on the 21st November.

If you’re interested in any of these events, you can ring Deloraine House on 6362 2678 to book your place.
