WHEN YOU walk into Elf on the Shelf, it’s like walking into a fairy grotto. Single mother, Selki Tombs has put many long hours during the past six months establishing her unique Deloraine business. Filled with mythical creatures from fairytale forests, the shop is a must see for anyone who loves gnomes, fairies and elves.

Selki has turned her love of arts and crafts into her income. Elf on the Shelf strives to provide hand-made products made by Selki herself, as well as local, national and international artists. “As I am a hand-maker myself, I felt I would like to showcase what I make and offer it for sale in my own shop”. Selki said. But Selki doesn’t only sell her own stuff.

“We also have fifty to sixty artists’ work on offer”. she said, “A lot is local but also national and international”. With all that work of different artists provided, there is quite a range of products. These include Marionettes (Squeaky Tribe from Byron Bay), Fairy Plant Terrariums; also a range of necklaces and locklets, glass jars and handmade eco-friendly toys.

There are plasma cut metal-work sunflowers, 3D sculptures and silhouettes as well as a large range of wool clothing. “We have a small garden area out the back that stocks unusual plants such as herbs, natives and some cottage plants,” Selki said.

There is a small book collection which specialises in rare and unique finds, particularly vintage illustrated books involving unicorns, fairies, dragons, gomes and such.

Given such a combination of products and other things, customers who have gone into Elf on the Shelf have loved it. One customer loved her experience there. “What a fabulous shop full of beautiful and whimsical things created, for the most, part from natural materials. Well worth a visit”. Julie said. Plus, if you’re one of those many people in the Meander Valley who love arts and crafts, Elf on the Shelf has a studio in which they have begun to host a variety of classes.

Classes include dying, basket making, crochet courses, felting, rugs from recycled fabrics, bag weaving and much more. Some of these classes are taken by Selki herself, while others are taught by local artists.
