QTAS, TASMANIA’S LGBTIQ community choir is performing in Deloraine on Sunday 2nd of August at the Meander Valley Performing Arts Centre.

Last year QTas worked with LGBTIQ communities across Tasmania to gather stories about LGBTIQ life in regional and urban communities.

Talented Tasmanian songwriters and composers drew on these stories to create beautiful songs with harmonies for the choir.

These songs will be presented in this concert, which celebrates love and community, honours loss and embraces diversity.

QTas Choir was formed in 2013, the brainchild of Deborah Wace and Helen Thomson.

The aim was to create a safe, creative, and inclusive space for the LGBTIQ community and allies throughout Tasmania.

It seeks to provide opportunities to build capacity, learn skills, strengthen relationships and generally celebrate Tasmanian queer lived experience.

From the outset, QTas has had a strong brief of developing and performing original music and developing community through sharing creative experiences together.

The choir invites people from  the North and North-west of the state to participate in the performance.

If you would like to learn the repertoire and perform in the Deloraine concert, please come along to a weekend singing intensive.

The weekend workshop will be held at Parakeleo Retreat, Sheffield from the 17th to 19th July.

Accomplished Musical Director, Helen Thomson, will lead the intensive, with her inspirational teaching style that enables learning in a safe and fun environment.

The choir welcomes both LGBTIQ community and allies.

Helen is particularly good at nurturing the singer within, so no previous singing experience necessary.
