PAST AND PRESENT members came together recently to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Prospect Fire Brigade.

Since 19th May 1985 there have been a lot of accomplishments and achievements to be remembered in a ceremony at the station attended by Tas Fire dignitaries and MLC Rosemary Armitage.

“I didn’t realise what a community spirited fire brigade it was. You know you tend to think of fire brigades going out and fighting fires but you don’t realise that they do so much more,” she said.

From incident responses, task forces in Tasmania and interstate, Firefighters championships, running in red tutus, and cutting firewood for Ronnie Burns the Prospect Fire Brigade has been a brigade for the community.

First Officer of Prospect Brigade Matthew Buck was chairperson for the event.

“The main reason for the function was to celebrate the 30 years but also to award some people for their long service and diligent service,” Mr Buck said.

“Other brigades do have longer history but we have certainly in our 30 years I think provided pretty good service to the community and associated agencies,” he said.

Former firefighter and founding member of Prospect Brigade Gary Pearce came to see how things have changed over time.

“It was good to see old and new members attend,” Gary said.

“I remember most the comradery, training, and working with great men and women.”
