FOR TEN years, the Deloraine Dramatic Society has been holding Originals Only Night, a concept of the late Maggie Taylor’s.

The event offers a safe and supportive performing arts space for local and intra-state artists to share their creative endeavors.

Showcasing original work is the only criterion for participation by musicians, poets, short storytellers, songwriters, dancers and the occasional clown.

Some performers are on stage for the first time, sharing very personal art that is often close to their hearts.

Others return again and again to charm the audience with yet another new poem or piece of music they have been working on.

Then there are the surprising, delightful and unexpected participants who, on passing through the area, hear of this event and decide to drop in to perform.

Like the lady from Wales visiting her sister living in the Meander Valley – she delighted us by beautifully singing one song in the native Welsh language.

Despite the diverse backgrounds, performances are always of a high quality.

The magical occasion typically runs for about 2.5 hours at the historically steeped Little Theatre in Deloraine, with a scrumptious supper in the middle.
