IN 1993 a small number of enthusiastic table tennis players would meet each Wednesday evening in the Deloraine Primary School Gymnasium and set up two tables for an evening of fun.

This was the beginning of the Deloraine Table Tennis League, and its popularity soon necessitated a move to a larger venue. In 1998 it moved to the Deloraine Performing Arts Centre, which is its current ‘home’.

Tables are set up each Wednesday evening from 7.00 pm. to 9.30 pm for roster or individual games or simply for practice.

The club president, Andrew Lockwood, is an accredited coach with The Tasmanian Table Tennis Association (TTTA), and is keen to assist newcomers and aspiring champion alike.

The club is affiliated with the TTTA, and enters a team in the state league competition each year. Whether you seek this level, or just want to have some fun games, the club would welcome your participation.

Age is no barrier. A good number of the members are in their 70’s, and some are under 10. There is still one active member, a previous Tasmanian champion, who is in his mid-80’s.

Come along and give it a go. Bats and balls are all provided, but you should bring your sports shoes.

The cost per night is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. If you decide to join the club the annual fee is $10.00, which gives you affiliation to the Tasmanian Table Tennis Association.

Come along and get fit, and have fun while you are doing it.

For more information you can contact Andrew on 0418 523 495 or just turn up on a Wednesday evening and see for yourself.
