THE FUTURE of football in Prospect is going to include males and females in a move to recruit girls for the Prospect Hawks Junior Football Club.

Girls with aspirations to become AFL players will soon have greater opportunity with the creation of a new competition.

Female football is on the rise in Tasmania, with female only or mixed competitions already happening in Auskick right through to senior competition.

“The Prospect Hawks will be conducting our first Youth Girls football team with the 13 to 17 year olds in the soon to be launched Northern Tasmanian Junior Football Association Youth Girls competition,” Prospect Hawks President, Chris Ryan, said.

“We have had a strong response already but need some help to get more girls interested in being part of the first team.”

“There is now a genuine talent pathway about to begin with the first national competition draft later this year in the lead up to the competition launch in 2017, so it is a great time for youth aged girls to be considering playing AFL at grass roots level here at Prospect,” he said.

The football club is still registering girls to participate in the first competition beginning in April. New players are welcome to attend training each Tuesday from 6:15pm at Prospect Park (off Harley Parade).
