Festival for young thespians

LITTLE THEATRE in Deloraine will light up next month when the 62nd Youth Drama Festival comes to town.

Each year dozens of young actors from around the state spend weeks and months perfecting their acts and arrive in Deloraine to experience the delight of performing in a real theatre in front a live audience.

This year’s event will be even more special and more comfortable for theatre goers following the recent upgrade of the venue.

A long time supporter of the festival, Deloraine High School will again showcase its talent along with other regular entrants from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School and Exeter High School.

Also treading the boards will be students from St Patrick’s Catholic School, Latrobe and first time entrants, students from the newly formed Stagesong Studio in Hadspen.

Stagesong Studio that opened at the start of this year is run by local performer Cara Tatnell, who wrote a script entitled “Off the Page” that will be performed at the festival.

The comedy/drama will feature eight students in the junior section in their first ever performance in front of an audience.

Festival organisers are excited to welcome back Louise Peters as this year’s adjudicator.

Launceston Church Grammar School’s head drama teacher Ms Peters last adjudicated the event in 1999.

The Festival will be held from the 12th to 17th September at The Little Theatre in Deloraine.

Evening sessions will be held from Monday to Saturday from 6.30pm with a matinee session held on Saturday 17th at 1.30pm.
