HAGLEY BASED business, The Tasmanian Walking Company was recognised at last month’s Tasmanian Tourism Awards, coming away with the Eco Tourism Award.

Sales and Marketing Manager, Ros Young, said that they spend a lot of time in their business planning and looking at new technologies.

“We also make sure we’re staying true to the nature of Eco Tourism,” she said.

“Most of our travellers are domestic. About eighty percent are from Australia, mainly from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.  Generally they visit the state to do a tour with us.

Starting out with the Cradle Mountain huts walk thirty years ago, the business has thrived and since included the Bay of Fires lodge walk and the Wineglass Bay sail walk, finally becoming the Tasmanian Walking Company.

“I think one of the really great things about the company is that we are a strong team and we get some of the most fabulous guides,” Ros said.

“They’re the ones that are with the guests face to faceevery day so we do what we can back at the office to support them, “It’s really what they’re doing with the guests whilst they’re out on the track that makes the real difference.”
