ARE YOU currently going through a divorce? Do you have kids and you’re trying to figure out whether they’ll live with Mum or Dad?

Do you want to know whether you have any other ‘rights’? Are you a grandparent who wants to see your grandchildren?

These are some of the many questions put to Elise, the Launceston Community Legal Centre’s (LCLC’s) Family Law solicitor, on a regular basis.

There are a lot of myths floating around about family law. Have you ever heard that once a child turns 12 they can make decisions about where they want to live?  The Launceston Community Legal Centre (LCLC) is running a free information session that will answer many of the common questions about children and family law.  Come along to hear from a lawyer exactly what is fact and what is fiction!

The truth is, that each family is different, and it is important to hear how the law applies in your particular circumstance. What happened when your neighbours separated might be completely different to what happens with your family.

There are no short answers when it comes to issues as big as family breakdown. Wrong information can cause unnecessary additional friction at a really difficult time for everyone concerned, and obtaining appropriate legal advice early can assist in avoiding this. The LCLC can help to sort through the maze and provide appropriate legal advice.

The free community talk will be on Monday 20th March at 10.00am at Deloraine House 112 Emu Bay Rd. Elise will also be available to see people individually (by appointment) after the talk to give confidential specific legal advice.

LCLC solicitors assist parents and grandparents at no cost by providing legal advice, assisting with parenting plans and consent orders, and making appropriate referrals.

Morning tea will be provided at the talk. Anyone wanting an appointment with the solicitor should contact LCLC direct on 6334 1577 from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday.
