JUNE 2017

CARRICK SPEEDWAY turns 50 this 2017/18’s racing season.

The dream began with Dave Powell and Lex Sturnberg which led to track construction in 1967 and was crystalised during the first fortnightly race meeting for four divisions of stock cars on a Saturday afternoon in September 1968.

With many current members of the speedway community sharing in that start, the speedway has gone on to average 80 cars per race meeting.  Very quickly Carrick made its mark on Speedway, not only in Tasmania but also across the country.

Members have witnessed an endless list of other changes over the past five decades. From racing confined to the day by the absence of night lights, to the former wooden paling track fence morphing into the current cement wall, and the old FB Holdens being replaced by current model sedans. They have also seen the introduction of safety gear like a race suit and hands device, to fire pots on the banks to keep warm.

Carrick Speedway Drivers Association Inc. (formerly the Tasmanian Sedans Drivers Association Inc.), and Tasmanian Formula 500 Club Inc., which own and operate this voluntary club run track, invite you to join their trip down memory lane as they celebrate Carrick Speedway over these past 50 years.

The event is from 2.00pm on 24th June at the Harley Iron Horse Bar & Grill’s function room, 468 Westbury Rd in Prospect.

Come and share your memories and any photos you may wish to bring along for inclusion in the book that will be produced to celebrate the 50th season.  Scanning and photocopying facilities will be available.

For further details call Andrea Cox on 0428 500 939 or Steve Jessup on 0418 131 125.
