NUMBERS WERE up from last year at this year’s Agfest, with a total of 62,787 attending over the three days.

Thursday’s numbers were up 2,910, Fridays 2057 and Saturday a whopping 4502 more people attended than in 2016.

As usual, a variety of entertainment was on offer including William Thomson the current Australian Junior Whipcracking Champion.

William was representing the Tasmanian Whipmakers and Plaiters Association and uses whips made by Simon Martin of Devonport.

The crack a whip makes is produced when a section of the whip moves faster than the speed of sound, creating a small sonic boom. The tip of the whip moves twice as fast as the loop of the whip.
