THE STATE Government is providing $55,000 through the Community Infrastructure Fund (CIF) to help support the Deloraine Devils Netball Club.

The funding will be put towards the construction of two new netball courts in Deloraine.

Up until now, players have not had their own courts and competing meant travelling to Launceston.

“It will also allow the Devils to increase participation in the sport, support more active and healthy lifestyles, and provide the option of hosting state competition games in the future,” explained Guy Barnett, Liberal member for Lyons who met with the club to celebrate the good news and make a formal announcement of the funding.

Deloraine Devils Netball Club President Taneil Bloomfield commented, “we’re ecstatic about it. It’s a great step forward for netball in Deloraine and the precinct. Now we will be able to run things when it suits us and run some of our own tournaments. It’s something we have been working on for a very long time.”

The club is a pro-active and determined group who recently celebrated their 10th anniversary; having started with just one senior competition team.

The club has now grown to include three senior and two junior teams in the Northern Tasmanian Netball Association (NTNA) competition in 2017. It is a club that is definitely going from strength to strength.
