OCTOBER 2017

AS WE AGE, we need different approaches to maintain fitness.  Gino Fratangelo, (Meander Valley Council Recreation Officer), has designed a program to build knowledge about improving fitness and confidence and incorporate this into daily life.

A physical education and fitness teacher for thirty years, Gino’s passion is to help people maintain their fitness levels as they age.

The program will be indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) at Westbury and Deloraine.  Activities include handeye, foot-eye, stretching and postural exercises, use of outdoor exercise equipment and aerobic machines, strengthening exercises using dumb-bells and bar-bells, walking and safe lifting techniques.

Exercises will be appropriate to different fitness levels, building strength, balance and co-ordination using existing community resources.

The program mimics everyday activities, so participants can use the knowledge and confidence they gain while shopping, gardening, climbing stairs, driving, or walking the dog.

Meander Valley U3A offers this eight-week program in Term 4 on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30 to 4.30 pm, starting 18th October.

Meander Valley U3A offers courses and activities for retirees who believe in a healthy physical, mental, emotional and social life.  New members are always welcome.
