AN ARTICLE in the October edition of Meander Valley Gazette titled ‘Bittersweet sale’ contained a statement that is misleading.

The article, concerning Meander Valley Council’s sale of a Mole Creek property to recoup rates, said “The owners refused to pay because, in their opinion, the land belonged to God and the council should seek the money from him.”

The owners (Beerepoots), say ‘’Whilst we do claim that the land belongs to God at no time have we formed, stated or expressed the opinion that Council should seek payment from Him.”

The statement in the article was taken as a quote from Mayor Perkins during a media Q&A, but was not referenced as such in the story.
