No change for show day

December 2017

MEANDER VALLEY Council has ruled out supporting a proposal to swap the Launceston Show Day holiday for an Agfest holiday.

Cllr Bob Richardson put the motion at the November council meeting, saying that Meander Valley people do not support the Launceston Show as they do Agfest.

But Cllr Ian Mackenzie said that Agfest organisers do not want a public holiday for their event because of the impact on costs of penalty rates.

“Agfest doesn’t need a public holiday; it already attracts 60,000 people,” he said.

“I don’t think we should put a nail in the coffin of the Launceston Show.”
