Woodchop Wonder

December 2017 | David Claridge

DELORAINE LOCAL, Daniel Gurr has been busy over the last few months collecting firsts in wood cutting competitions around Australia.

From winning the Australian title in tree felling at the Brisbane show in August, the world tree felling championship at the Perth show around September, to recently coming away with the Australian Rookie Champion at the STIHL Timbersports national final in October, Daniel is truly following in his father’s footsteps.

From the Timbersports win, Daniel has earned a place at the Rookie World Championship in Marseille, France in May next year.

“I’ve been doing it my whole life. I’m pretty experienced for my age,” Daniel said.

“Doing the rookie championship and getting a chance to compete in the world championship for Australia has been great.”

In preparation for the world championship event, Daniel was recently invited to attend a training camp in Norway.

“I plan to use the experience I gained in Norway to get me across the line. Hopefully I can bring it home for Australia.”
