APRIL 2018

SATURDAY 17th March saw a huge St Patrick’s Day celebration in Westbury.

An estimated 250 people attended ‘Shindig’ - a concert held in the Town Hall which was followed by supper and a music session in the RSL. Attendance exceeded all expectations and probably set a new record for Irish Stew and Guinness consumed at one sitting!

The concert program had a bit of everything with pipe band, Irish dancers, folk instrumentalists and singers, and a large enthusiastic audience.

This was a bridging and fundraising event for the Festival which was held over this year to give the new steering group time to find its feet.

A well-attended public meeting in November 2017 identified a strong idea as to how the Westbury St Patrick’s Festival should be, moving forward.

The success of the St Paddy’s Shindig reflects a new energy and direction and taps into the widespread affection that exists for the Festival. The new Steering Group is about to begin plans for a bumper 2019 Festival program.
