APRIL 2018

THE WINTERFIRE committee, under the auspices of Arts Deloraine, is busy planning this year’s event – to be held on 16th June at Deloraine Showgrounds.

Alongside old favourites - fire drums, marshmallow toasting, drumming, music, poetry and song – will be several new additions with a recycling theme.

For the lantern parade, everyone is encouraged to make a tin can lantern to bring along.

There will also be two scarecrow competitions.

Primary school children can make a scarecrow no more than 20 cm high to be stuck in a flowerpot. This competition closes on 1st May, so entries can be displayed in the Aged Care windows. There will be 8 prizes of $25.00, sponsored by Deloraine Amcal Pharmacy.

The second competition is open to individuals, families and community groups, for a life-sized scarecrow to be attached to a star picket at the showgrounds on the day of the event. Deloraine Deli has sponsored 1st prize of $100.00 and 2nd and 3rd prizes of $50.00 each.

The committee is also creating and trialling a new fire event featuring outlines of various structures in flames, to take place during the lantern parade. The details are presently being kept secret, along with burnt fingers!

Instruction sheets, examples and entry forms available at the WinterFire stall for the next 3 Deloraine markets (first Saturday of the month) or the Alpaca Shop.
