JULY 2018

AROUND 800 locals rugged up for the fourth annual WinterFire at Deloraine Showgrounds last month for an evening of fire, food and fun.

Arts Deloraine organiser Jaqui Stacey said local entertainers and performers wowed the crowd with poetry, storytelling, song, dance and fire twirling, together with a roving magician and puppeteer.

A scarecrow competition and two-dimensional fire sculptures were new this year; the adults sipped on mulled wine while kids toasted marshmallows at the fire drums and twirled sparklers.

“The ring of scarecrows created a new interest with lots of people taking selfies with them,” Ms Stacey said.

“The evening finished o with a story of the Spirit of Fire and the lighting of 2D fire sculptures and then the large bonfire.”

Ms Stacey said WinterFire is truly a Deloraine community event with seven other community groups helping out with the event this year, including the Deloraine Fire Brigade, SES, Lions, Apex, the Deloraine Show Society, Deloraine Pony Club and Circle Dance. Their work ranged from selling food to helping on the gate and with parking and fire lighting.

WinterFire sponsors included Deloraine & Districts Community Bank, MacLaine Enterprises, Amcal Pharmacy and Deloraine Deli.
