FOR THE Meander Valley Suns, 2019 has been bright with improvement.

The Seniors and Women’s teams have had some good wins but it’s in the Division One Reserves where the hard work is starting to show.

Media Liaison for the club, Alex Wadley points the rising success in the men’s and women’s leagues to their player retention and recruitment in the offseason.

‘We had an influx of quality senior players, however most importantly, our players who have stuck by the club in tough times signed on for another year after a disappointing 2018 campaign,’ he said.

‘There is a good vibe around the club at the moment. We are having some success. The players are showing their commitment to each other and to the club after a less than desirable end to the 2018 season. The women’s team was only two per cent off making the finals, showing the improvement from the previous year where we had not won a single game.’

After an uninspiring start, Division One Reserves came to life and managed to rack up good victories against Old Scotch (16.13.109–3.7.25), Perth (15.18.108–7.5.47) and Uni-Mowbray (21.18.144–1.5.11).

‘Whilst we still don’t have the high profile players that many of the other clubs have, we are only a couple of recruits and continued hard work on the training track away from being able to match and beat the top sides in the competition,’ said Alex.
