FOR JUST over a week, between Wednesday 28 October and Thursday 5 November, the main street in Deloraine became an art gallery.

Bright yellow roundabout signs at each end of the shopping centre announced the Windows On Art Deloraine exhibition, known as WOAD. If you were in Deloraine, you couldn’t miss it.

Bright yellow footpath stickers marked the windows where each artwork could be seen walking along the street.

Each work was accompanied by a yellow card containing information about the artwork and a statement from each artist.

All the artworks displayed in WOAD 2020, were carefully matched to their particular window setting.

Observers could enjoy a wide variety of traditional and contemporary artworks in different media – painting, drawing, prints, collage, textiles, stone carving and bronze casting.

For many people, art galleries are forbidding places, where we would love to visit but don’t have the time, filled with art that doesn’t connect with us.

WOAD brings art into the street, for us to see the things that local artists love to make.

Some comments were, ‘I have noticed lots of people going up and down the street just look- ing at the art’, ‘It’s good for the spirit of the community’, and ‘Thanks for brightening up the town’.

Arts Deloraine, the organisers of WOAD 2020, would like to thank the participating Deloraine businesses for so willingly taking part in the exhibition.

Without them, none of this would have been possible.
