THE MORE supervised driving hours a learner has, the safer they will be when they start driving on their own.

Deloraine High School is grateful to receive a donation from the Deloraine Rotary Club Vocational Committee, as a Road Safety Week initiative, to enable three senior secondary students to participate in pro- fessional driving lessons.

Accredited driving lessons will increase the students’ opportunity to obtain their licences, increase their inde- pendence and enable them to access employment or further training opportunities.

The initiative identified the lack of public transport as a significant barrier for young people when moving out of the school system, including affecting access to driver training available in larger centres.

Deloraine High School appreciates this donation and the support that Deloraine Rotary provides throughout the year for the school and community.

Another driver education program supporting students through Deloraine Rotary is the RYDA program, coordinated by Rotary in partnership with Road Safety Education Ltd.

Deloraine Year 10 students have participated in RYDA over the past 10 years.

Participation will become even more significant when the Plates Plus Safer Driving for Life program is introduce in December 2020.

Participation in a RYDA program provides learner drivers with valuable additional log book hours.
