Meander Valley Suns

Our Reserves and Seniors had a tough year on the field this season, however with our new Senior coach Brennan Savage we began building a solid foundation with a lot of young talent emerging through the ranks and hope to see some more success on-field in the 2023 season.

Our women had a very successful season this year, beginning with the recruitment of several new experienced players along with some young girls who were new to football and have picked up the game so quickly and fit into our existing group perfectly.

After a lot of hard work from the entire group, we gradually developed throughout the year and made it to our first grand final, which was the first Grand Final any Meander Valley Suns team has made since joining the league in 2014.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the win however we have set ourselves up for a very exciting and promising 2023 campaign.

Season’s Best and Fairest Awards were presented to: Liam Shegog (Senior Best and Fairest), Brendan Johnson (Reserves Best and Fairest) and Kia Rogers (Women’s Best and Fairest).

Club awards were presented at the Annual Dinner held on 10 September in Westbury to Seniors: Most Courageous – Kyran McMahon; Best Backman – Joe Lowe; - Leading Goal Kicker – Sam Archer; - Rising Sun – Dylan Bakes and Coache’s Award – Matthew Brooks

Reserves: Best Backman – Curtis Hodgetts; Leading Goal Kicker – Brendan Johnson; Coaches Award – Jacko Bennett.

Rising Sun – Henry Wilison

Women’s: Best Backman – Kia Rogers; Leading Goal Kicker – Cleo Cresswell; Coaches Award – Jacqui Hodgkinson, Rising Sun – Dakota De Haan and Ella Cresswell and Best in Finals – Ella Cresswell
