MVFM goes global

John Phelps

John Kensey (a.k.a. Little John or L.J.) certainly gets about.

Last year he spent time in New Zealand and Poland.

This year he has already been to Queensland and has his eyes firmly set on Western Australia.

And if all that is not enough, one of the programs he presents for Meander Valley Community Radio (MVFM) is now to be broadcast by an American community radio station.

So, MVFM can rightly boast to be broadcasting to the world.

Mind you, for some time now the same has been achieved by the station’s streaming system and listeners have been in touch with the station from Scotland, America, Singapore, Iceland and the list goes on.

The station broadcasts a few programs which originate from mainland presenters - Mark O’Neill sends us “Raised on Rock” from Geelong, Paul Conn presents “The Live Archive” from Canberra and there’s Steve Norwood’s “The First Australian Music Show” from Melbourne.

Of course, Julia and Gordon’s “Cogwebs and Strange” emanates from seedy 19th century East London. But, back to L.J.

Feedback from listeners suggests that country music is MVFM’s favourite music genre.

On Thursday evenings, listeners can hear “New Country Tracks” followed by “Classic Country”.

On Saturday mornings, there is “OZ Country”, followed again by “Classic Country”.

And several of the “local” presenters actually reside in exotic locations such as Westbury, Meander, Chudleigh, Liffey and Hawley Beach.

What a great assortment of music genres and presenters and viewpoints!

The station always welcomes feedback from listeners.

So, if you have any comments or observations about the programs offered currently, please get in touch.

Or, if you belong to any local organisation in search of a guest speaker – again, just contact the station.

And congratulations to L.J. now that he has gone global.
