Hanging by a thread

Exhibited in this year’s Windows on the Arts Deloraine (WOAD) Emu Bay Road street gallery, the mosaic artwork, Hanging by a Thread, is the result of an international collaborative project backed by the United Nations.

Artists drew inspiration from the colours and patterns intricately woven into traditional Afghan dresses.

Glass mosaic segments are joined together in a long scarf to show connectedness and the tough rigid materials of glass and mortar represent the strength and resilience of Afghan culture.

The giant mosaic scarf is on display through to 7 November then moves to Devonport.
