Deloraine can boast of many achievers over the years, but the quiet ones usually go unrecognized!

And it’s one such achiever, Heather Barrett of Deloraine, who once again passed her year’s knitting of Samaritan’s Purse shoebox beanies (51) to me this week.

When the call first went out for beanies in 2002 Heather - who had never knitted a beanie before - took up the challenge. And every year since 2002 she’s donated a huge bag of her hand-knitted, show quality beanies (‘works of art’) for me to pass on to St Mark’s Anglican church.

Heather, her husband and invalid son, Wayne, live modestly in a very humble weather-board cottage, but she has a heart of gold.
