Community radio is flying high!

Thirty-two per cent of all radio listeners around Australia aged over 15 years listen to community radio for an average of 15.4 hours per week.

This is the finding of a recent survey undertaken by the McNair organisation on behalf of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

Meander Valley’s very own community radio station, MVFM, is part of that scene.

President of the local station, Dr John Phelps, says that MVFM continues to grow in strength with very high levels of membership and sponsorship, a solid financial situation and an enviable reputation in our community - and it’s all run by volunteers.

MVFM is renowned for the range of music it broadcasts – from reggae to jazz, country and world music, comedy, blues, sacred and classical, and even “genre-defying” music.

Local knowledgeable and enthusiastic locals present many programs.

This year, three new presenters are already introducing new programs and styles of music.

So, the station goes from strength to strength.

But, extra volunteers are always needed.

Anybody who would like to contribute to the station is invited to get in touch.

The station is located in the Deloraine Creative Studios (DCS) at 59-61 Emu Bay Road.

Helpers with skills or interest in presenting programs, providing technical support, administration and marketing are all invited to make contact.

And, of course, new members and readers of promos and sponsors’ ads are always welcome.

How to contact MVFM? – at the DCS or 6362 4969, Deloraine PO Box 9 or deborah.eastley@bigpond.au.
