Radio committee hard at work

Treasurer Tim Biggs and President John Phelps attend to some information from Program Manager John Kenzey at a recent Committee meeting.

Contrary to what might be assumed by a reader looking at the accompanying photograph, it is not mandatory for members of the Committee of Management of Meander Valley Community Radio to be bald, grey-bearded and male.

There are ten members of the committee and not all of us fit that description.

The committee meets regularly and oversees the contributions from volunteer presenters, announcers, admin staff, technicians, maintenance workers, sponsors and members.

The result is the fine local radio station usually known as MVFM 96.9.

The station is best known for its range of music programs hosted by local presenters and for the service it offers to sponsors and club members to connect with our community.

It is reassuring to receive a great deal of feedback from members of the community who wish to express their comments and thanks.

The station normally offers programs all day and night every day of the week.

Unfortunately, during the wild weather we experienced a couple of weeks ago, we were off the air for a time. We apologise for that.

But, we continued our streaming service, and our many listeners were able to tune in.

We’ve ascertained that we have hundreds of ‘streamers’, local, Australia-wide and throughout the world.

And one thing we’ve learned is that our most listened-to program is Country Tracks.

One listener was moved to assure us that ‘MVFM is the best local radio station in the country!’ Hyperbole, perhaps, but we are grateful for the support.

Membership of the station for the 2022-23 year is now available – just contact us on webmaster@mvfm.com.au or phone 6362 4969 to join and you will be very welcome.

And we would also welcome you to attend our AGM in September and to seek nomination to the Committee.

Remember – you don’t need to be bald, bearded or male!
