Deloraine tree-felling dominance continues

The Gurr family maintains their champion reputation at the World Championships held in Sydney and the recent Campell Town show.

Daniel Gurr used his experience, strength, endurance and precision taking on his nemesis Mitchell Hewitt, to win the World Championship Tree Felling title for the second year.

The tree-felling event is a heart racing spectacle and crowd pleaser.

Perched on board they wedge into the trunk of a 4.5m high timber block, the axeman works his way up and down the block before finally severing the block a few metres off the ground.

Later in the year father and son Matthew and Daniel Gurr combined to win the final Tasmanian woodchopping championship of the season at the Campbell Town Show in June 2022.

In the 600mm Standing block title (also referred to as the butcher’s block), where two competitors team up to cut through a massive log.

The Gurrs dispatched their block in an impressive time of three minutes and 40 seconds.
