Students celebrate Book Week 2022

Deloraine Primary School students and teachers get into the spirit of Book Week at the Deloraine Community Complex.

Book Week provides students with the opportunity to participate in a range of activities to celebrate books and learn about Australian authors and illustrators.

The annual Book Week parade was held at the Deloraine Community Complex so that Deloraine Primary School students, teachers, family and friends could all participate in the event.

Book Week 2022 asked students and teachers alike to embrace the theme “Dreaming with your eyes open”.

It was an opportunity to escape into the world of books by coming to school as their favourite character.

Teacher Alana Atkins said “that it was very pleasing to see that so many students, from across all year groups, and their teachers joined in the spirit of the parade”.

The parade featured a range of characters from the traditional classics such as Rapunzel (complete with tower window) and Cruella to the new classic Harry Potter characters.

Across the road, Year 7 students Charlotte Churchill, Annabell Bryan, Maddison Byard, Amanda Kesson, Kaylei Squires and Oliver Barrett have spent the last five weeks of term planning Book Week activities at the Deloraine High School.

Their first event was the inaugural Book Fair, held to raise funds to improve the social environment in the library.

They also organised a BBQ and “Book Face” photo competition where fellow students faced-off with their favourite book.

The character dress up parade was held on Friday in the hall where Miss Paine’s 7C took out the top spot.
