Chilcotts take milk quality award

Chilcott’s dairy in Meander has been acknowledged by Dairy Australia as one of Australia’s Top 100 farms for producing high quality milk.

The Chilcott family have been farming in Meander for close to 90 years

Dairy Australia’s Milk Quality Awards, which commenced 20 years ago, recognise Australian dairy farms with the lowest annual average bulk milk cell count (BMCC) during the last financial year.

Healthy cows produce milk with lower cell counts.

Low BMCC is associated with good udder health and lower rates of mastitis in the overall herd.

Economic modelling by Dairy Australia shows that dairy farmers who actively manage their operations to lower BMCC can increase farm income through higher milk production and lower feed costs.
