Tasmanian Junior Beef Expo

The 7th annual Tasmanian Junior Beef Expo was held at the Deloraine Showgrounds on the weekend of the 24-26th February 2023.

The three day youth camp comprised of 45 competitors aged from 8-25 years. Despite many of the local agriculture shows struggling, the Tas Junior Beef Expo remains successful.

The focus of the Tas Junior Beef Expo is on educating participants about different aspects of the beef cattle industry.

The Committee sees the Expo as a key component to encouraging young people into the beef cattle industry.

Each year they try to offer different workshops and activities so that returning participants can continue to develop their knowledge.

This year participants completed workshops including, washing and leading their heifers, blow torch clipping demonstrations, on site carcass breakdown, animal nutrition, Industry Career Panel, and public speaking.

As well as workshops participants had the opportunity to compete in individual competitions including cattle handling and judging.

All events are run at four different experience levels, from novice through to advanced, to accommodate all competitors.

The committee recognizes that the success of this event is not possible without the generous donations from sponsors, with event partners the Deloraine Branch of the Bendigo Bank and Rural Bank.

Many thanks also to the hard working committee and out many supporters and volunteers.
