AT THE end of Westbury Road in Prospect, there lies Richardson’s Harley-Davidson store and Museum, and Tasmanian Motorcycle Warehouse. Next to those is a unique restaurant, one that brings an American flair to the area.

Originally the Tassie Devils Restaurant and Bar when it opened in 2008, the renamed Iron Horse Bar & Grill has continued to be popular with the locals and tourists.

Venue Manager since May, Guy Conolan, said that he enjoys working at the unique establishment.

“It has grown over the years and continues to be a fun place to visit,” he said.

“Being that it’s attached to a Harley-Davidson dealership and museum, it’s themed around Harley-Davidson as an American style bar and grill atmosphere.

“Coming into summer we’re looking at opening on Sunday afternoons as well and getting more live entertainment going.

Guy has a background working in five-star hotels, resorts and major tourist attractions in Queensland with a significant focus on guest service and engagement.

The restaurant is well decorated and looked after, with a Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer Drag Bike, one of only a few hundred ever built, located above the bar.

The décor is from owner Simon Hrycyszyn’s private collection and many of the bar items such as the stools and Harley-Davidson bar paraphernalia were imported from the USA.

Mr Hrycyszyn said that initially Richardson’s Harley-Davidson had a small kiosk attached.

“A lot of our clients wanted to wait while their motorcycles were being serviced, so it was a convenience factor,” he said.

“As the store began to get busier, we thought it would be a great idea to attach a bar and grill to Richardson’s Harley-Davidson for our customer’s benefit, plus to enhance the many functions our store has every year related to the Harley-Davidson franchise. So the Iron Horse Bar and Grill was born.”

The restaurant currently employs ten locals and does around 170 meals a week.

Also new to the team in May is Head Chef, Jarryd West, who brings a great standard of food service, presentation and innovation to the table from his background in many ‘hatted’ restaurants in Melbourne and Perth.

“One of the things we like to focus on is being a family friendly environment with the restaurant and entertainment,” Mr Conlan said.

“Located right next to the highway, we get a lot of passers- by coming in to check out the dealership and museum and staying for a meal, as well as plenty of regular guests.”

Iron Horse is popular for birthday parties, work functions, dinner, or just drop in for a few beers and a game on the eight ball table.
