FOR SEVENTY years the Deloraine Show has been bringing people to the area to have fun and enjoy some really good food.

This year was no exception.  There was a great range of things to do, from archery and riding in giant zorb balls to seeing prize winning cattle and demonstrations.

Liz Walker, activity committee coordinator for the show, said that over the years the show had only been cancelled once due to a polio outbreak, but that was a long time ago.

“It’s the kind of show I would love to see people from Launceston and Devonport come to, because it has a different atmosphere to a city show.

“We don’t have the side shows, so it is a cheaper alternative for families because there are a lot of free activities.

“The families can relax with the mountains as the backdrop,” said Liz.

Some people might have thought they travelled back in time. Men and women in armour, carrying swords could be seen around the show, often giving demonstrations and letting people have a go at sword fighting.

Jessica Bramich of Golden Valley was one of the many people who brought their children along to enjoy the festivities.

“The kids have had an absolutely great day,” she said.

“They enjoyed the zorb balls and the hot potatoes the most.

“We come every year, we love it.”

The Deloraine locals who volunteered, demonstrated once again why they are known as gentle and caring people. Friendly ushers guided vehicles to parking spaces while families directed seemingly lost visitors to various parts of the show.

Facepainter, Lisa Bowman, of Fancy Faces Entertainment, was busy throughout the day, helping to give many children their favourite character look.

“Spiderman and Frozen were the most popular today for face painting,” she said.

“We love coming to Deloraine. It’s got a nice vibe and it’s laid back.”
