Westbury firies Open Day

July 2017 | David Claridge

ARE YOU 18 or over, live in Westbury and would like to try something different, something that will teach you helpful skills and be a valuable way of giving back to the community?

Westbury Fire Brigade are looking for new members and will be holding an Open Day on 23rd July.

Brigade Chief Rodney Brewer has expressed that his brigade is a bit low on numbers and is hoping to recruit half a dozen or more soon.

“It’s open to anyone, but it is a benefit if they are available during the day,” he said.

“It’s up to them how far they want to go in the fire service but we need a commitment to attend when possible.

Westbury brigade responds to structural fires, vegetation and bush fires, road accident rescue, alarms at protected premises and assists Ambulance Tasmania with selected medical emergencies.

Successful applicants will have to undergo a ‘brigade basics’ course and get through a probation period before they will be able to attend any incidents.

After that, further training and courses will help develop them into skilled firefighters who can handle a wide range of situations.

Westbury Brigade trains the 2nd and 4th Monday each month.

The open day will have demonstrations and public involvement plus a sausage sizzle.

People interested in joining the brigade can contact Brigade Chief Rodney Brewer on 0418 131 143.
