THE FROSTS have started and the fires are on, all heralding the lead up to the Annual Winter Masque Ball. This year’s Ball will be on 29th July at the Deloraine Bowling Club. Eagerly anticipated by many in the community, the Ball is a chance to put on a mask, frock up and dance the night away. The theme for 2017 is “Steam Punk Fairytale” and organisers Megan Brinsmead and Sarah Sonata are excited to see what costumes the theme might inspire. “So far we have heard of people who are going more fairy tale, while others are more steampunk,” said Ms Brinsmead. “And I can’t wait to see the costumes of those who are combining both aspects of the theme,” added Ms Sonata. When asked if a costume is obligatory, Ms Brinsmead clarified that it was certainly encouraged but just a mask would do for those who wished to wear other outfits. The Masque Ball will feature the music of the ever popular Winter Ball house band - newly named WinterFolk - and will feature a mixture of older and newer music styles. “For those unfamiliar with the more traditional dances, never fear, there will be lessons on the night,” commented Ms Sonata. Decorations, always a feature of the Ball, have been under construction for the last few months. The highlight this year is a large fairy tale-themed castle. The Ball has always had great community support and this year organisers are very pleased to also have the sponsorship of Bendigo Bank, Best’s Butcher, Goslings Giftware, John M. King Audiology, Seppenfelts and Shandi. Tickets are on sale from 1st July and can be purchased at Seppenfelts. Prices for this year’s ball are $10.00 pre-paid from Seppenfelts, $5.00/child $30.00/family $60.00/table of 4 (only 5 available!) and $12.00/adults at the door. Attendees are encouraged to bring a plate to add to the supper table. An award for the best dish will be given out on the night, along with the Belle and Beau of the Ball and Best Mask. Bar and portraiture will be available on the night (no Eftpos). For more information, contact Megan on 6302 3372.
