Spring Fashion Show

October 2017

MEANDER VALLEY is building a connection with the mountainous country of Nepal, through the local Days for Girls group which meets to manufacture and assemble re-usable hygiene kits that enable Nepali girls to regularly attend school and go on to further education. This breaks the hopeless cycle of poverty, exploitation and early marriage for so many deserving girls.

Donations support the efforts of dedicated volunteers, and hundreds of the finished kits are personally distributed in Nepal by volunteers. Dr Lois Beckwith provides hygiene trainingto the girls. The team also  visits orphanages, and supervises a program assisting Nepalese ladies to run small businesses manufacturing these products.

Two annual major fundraisers are held for the purchase of materials – the Rotary Tasmanian Craft Fair, and the Deloraine Spring Fashion Show.

In 2016, talented models strutted their stuff to a crowded house, in a program that showcased the new season’s fashions. The afternoon was so much fun that it is happening again on Saturday 14th October. This year, the Nepalese community is joining in with a traditional dance segment. Doors open at 1:30 pm with lucky door prizes and raffles. The Parade begins at 2:30. Tickets are $15.00 for adults or $5.00 for students and include a luscious all-you-can-eat Devonshire Tea. Will MV Gazette’s garden columnist Nell Carr reprise her role of nonagenarian catwalk star? You’ll have to attend to find out!
