A $15M retirement village is proposed for land adjacent to Tyler Village in Prospect Vale.

Tyler Village nursing home owner Respect Group Ltd has lodged an application for a 64-home independent living estate with Meander Valley Council.

Respect intends to develop the estate over three years, building 18 homes and a community centre in the first year, 21 homes in the second year and 25 homes in the third year.

The homes will be two or three bedroom and each will have a single or double garage.

There will be an internal road network on the estate, visitor car parking and secure boat, caravan and trailer storage for residents and community gardens.

The entrance to the gated estate, to be named Reed Estate after historical Launceston businessman Henry Reed, would be from Bimbimbi Ave in Prospect Vale.

Respect managing director Jason Binder said the development would provide the safety, security and sense of community that made retirement village life attractive, as well as an on-site 72 bed aged care facility.

‘Reed Estate will help meet increasing local demand for retirement village living, as baby boomers in the region look to downsize and move to a ‘hassle-free’ lifestyle,’ he said.

‘We are really excited to be able to bring this proposal to the Launceston community as it not only provides obvious benefits for those looking for assisted living options but will also have positive flow-on effects for the local economy, especially during construction,’ Mr Binder said.

‘We will use local providers for the development and once built, there will be a whole new community living within walking distance to the local shopping precinct.’

Respect is a not-for-profit organisation running 26 aged care and retirement facilities in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.

Tasmania facilities include Tyler Village in Prospect, the Eliza Purton Home and Mt St Vincent in Ulverstone, Coroneagh Park in Penguin and St Ann’s (not St Ann’s Living) and Wellington View in Hobart.
