DoJ Natural Values Assessment Report released

The Tasmanian Department of Justice has released the Natural Values Assessment report, the first of several due diligence reports required for the statutory planning process for development of the Northern Correctional Facility, proposed for the Ashley Youth Detention Centre site.

In essence the Natural Values Assessment does not identify any significant environmental issues.

The site is free of threatened flora, with limited native vegetation of high value, and is not a significant habitat for threatened fauna.

The field survey did not report any specific native trees of particular interest either.

The authors suggest that specific permit conditions in relation to natural values to the Natural Assets Code of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme – Meander Valley are not recommended to progress development.
