THE MEANDER Valley Tassie She Devils committed to walk 100 kilometres in the Oxfam Trailwalker to help stamp out poverty and they completed it!

Over 2000 other walkers joined them for the main event in the Dandenong Ranges last month, collectively raising more than $2.4 million to aid the work of Oxfam nationally and internationally.

Beginning Friday morning, the 8th of April, the She Devils’ team continued into the early hours of Sunday on the 10th, taking a gruelling 43 hours and 12 minutes to cover the course; doing with just two hours sleep.

It was pleased with its achievement, as the group was one of the few complete teams of four left at that stage of the event.

“In the end, it was just shear determination, and mild insanity that helped us get over the line,’ says She Devil, Carol Burgess.

“As our physical comfort dropped away, we were bolstered and motivated by the support of our Meander Valley Community.”

The women also enjoyed the camaraderie of so many people brought together by this walk for a worthwhile cause.

Many hundreds of volunteers provided practical support, keeping everyone on the trail and assisting walkers to cross major highways safely.

And the State Emergency Service provided rescue operations for the injured and rallied words of encouragement for all.

The team received nearly $5000 in donations and countless expressions of encouragement from friends, family and people who were inspired by their major undertaking.

The event has been held each year for the last fourteen years and has built a reputation for harnessing the physical and financial support of thousands of individuals and sponsors.

Could it be your challenge in 2017?
