FUTURE UPGRADES of Birralee Road and Main Road Frankford will include a three metre wide lane each way to create an inter-regional freight route.

The details are included in information displayed at the Meander Valley and West Tamar Council chambers until 30 April, as well as on the Transport Dept website.

The upgrades will be done as part of the Northern Roads package, with the two roads part of Stage 3 after the Batman Highway upgrade.

The projected completion date is 2024, with design complete by early 2022, tendering by mid 2022 and construction started by the end of that year.

The width of the two roads will include a verge of 0.5m and a shoulder of one metre on each side.

According to the State Government, the included road surface upgrades will encourage heavy vehicle operators to use the route between Bell Bay and the NW Coast, reducing heavy traffic through Launceston.
