Shamrock legends launch new cricket season

It is 25 years since St Patricks Old Collegians Cricket Club entered the Northern Tasmanian Cricket Association (N.T.C.A.).

The connection with Westbury Cricket Club came about with a merger prior to the start of season 2004-05.

For both clubs to survive it made sense to merge as St Patricks had a strong junior base and a Second Grade senior side.

Westbury Cricket Club had senior teams but no juniors.

The merger allowed both clubs to prosper fulfilling teams from First Grade right through to juniors, with Westbury now known as the Westbury Shamrocks.

Westbury Shamrocks opened the new cricket season with a re-union dinner and induction of three players into the club’s Hall of Fame.

Premiership teammates of 1961-62 and 2011-12 and St Patrick’s Old Collegians were re-united and witnessed the induction of bowlers Nick Spencer, John Walker and Rob Peters into the club’s Hall of Fame.

They join Michael Claxton, Bob Ingamells and Ian Crowden.

Guest speaker at the dinner was 2001 Brownlow Medallist Jason Akermanis.
