Burned down in Elizabeth Town

Two men were taken to hospital after escaping a fire that engulfed a home in Elizabeth Town early on January 19.

Emergency services were called to the house on the Bass Highway just after 4:00 am.

TFS crews from neighbouring areas quickly joined local brigades.

Three medium tankers remained on the scene for hours, causing traffic delays on the busy stretch between Devonport and Deloraine.

Paramedics treated the men for mild smoke inhalation before transporting them to the Launceston General Hospital with minor injuries.

The house was entirely destroyed, and investigations found that the fire was deliberately lit.

One of the occupants, a 54-year-old man, was charged for the arson of the home.
